“Viruses follow me around, like dark shadows trailing my footsteps on the path of life. Covid-19, HIV AIDs, Syphilis, Hep-C, HIV Strokes, Viral Fungal Infections on my brain. Illness and death have been so much a part of my life and art that I cannot separate them.
“‘Survival AIDS’ is a body of work I have been working on for 10 years trying to piece together the pain, the feeling of loss within the pain that never really goes away, the utter senselessness and randomness of who lives and who dies. In an attempt to make sense of my life in surviving the AIDS Epidemic, surviving 911, surviving HIV Strokes, to become an aging, addicted, long-term Survivor, I have come to hate that phrase...Surviving is more of a burden than I can bare. I have always struggled to get the medications into my mouth during a time I was going on my third attempt to kill the Hep-C virus. Being compliant about anything isn't my strong suit.”
